Task 4b - Evaluation

The purpose of this advert was to encourage and persuade people to vote. My target audience were young and middle aged people, between 18 to 50 years-old.
I used Adobe Photoshop to create my advert.
My final advert looks different and better from what I imagined it like. One of my initial ideas was to use cartoons instead of pictures however; the idea wasn’t successful as I struggled to use Photoshop.
My advert has a rectangular shape. I tried to make the best use of the different tools I found in Adobe Photoshop. An example would be that, I used the rulers to divide the billboard into my desired sections. This tool helped me to make a more accurate lining of the pictures and to make them the same size too.
During the making of my advert, I focused mostly on the message. I wanted to make sure that the message I was getting across was simple and clear. ‘Have you wanted your voice to be heard, but didn’t know how? Well, you change this by voting!’ I placed my text at the centre because I wanted it to be the focus. My text font was Bernard MT Condensed and the size was 49 pt (for the first phrase) and 51 pt (for the second phrase). I also changed the colour to white and the font border line to black.
Taking the photographs was one of my biggest strengths. I didn’t need to edit my pictures as they came out really well. To be honest, I think that my photographs help to give a more serious/mature sense to my advert, as they look very professional and are of high quality. I took numerous pictures but ended up using eight. I placed four ‘sad’ pictures at the top and other four ‘happy’ pictures at the end which helped me to build the ‘story’ – Be happy by voting. I managed to include people of different ethnicities, gender, age… in the advert. My aim was to show that everyone can vote.
My photographs were taken in a studio. I used a black background and minimum lighting. Apart from the pictures, I also used a blue dark background for the advert as I wanted the pictures and text to stand-out. I used semiotics; I chose the colour blue as it connotes to honesty/loyalty.
One of my weaknesses was time management because I was constantly changing my ideas for the advert.
To finalise my advert, I added some information about the campaign: the logo, website and even the hashtag. This just reinforces that we are loyal and that the audience can trust us.
In conclusion, I am happy with my final advert and I believe I’ve met all the required criteria.
